Being the American representative of all things embracing and welcoming, I ate lots and lots of lutefisk. fishcakes, and gjetost. Not a fan of things that lie in tart milk products, I couldn't do the herring in sour cream. Put the little fellows in adobo and I am fine, however.

Gloom? Do you mean how dark it was? Coming from Cleveland, I didn't feel the lack of sunshine. If you mean Gloog or Gloegg or Glog, or any spelling of it... that I liked.

My way of doing Swedish meatballs is to make them small and mire them in hot barbeque sauce and lots of shoyu. Then I dump them over Amish noodles for the best of all possible worlds.

I will try to get to the Gloria Dei service. If I can't -- God Jul to you and yours. Thanks and kitchen love,
ETEugenie Torgersonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00725769833779170036noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4208484529310744874.post-72944855879413375522012-12-14T14:28:02.771-05:002012-12-14T14:28:02.771-05:00Sankta Lucia festival this Sunday at our Gloria De...Sankta Lucia festival this Sunday at our Gloria Dei Liurheran Church in South Bend! The congregation is mostly Swedish, so this has been an annual celebration my whole life!

Loved the memories of the food. Potatis Curve? That horrible jellied veal? Herring in Sour Cream, rice pudding, Blitz torte? My mom always makes the meatballs, her "secret recipe".
And, remember Gloom?

michele gurosnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4208484529310744874.post-68313525811241526892011-12-23T19:41:04.336-05:002011-12-23T19:41:04.336-05:00Eugenie,

We always celebrated a Swedish Christmas Eve with Swedish meatballs, potato sausage, bon ost(sp?)cheese,
Swedish rye and cardamon breads and much more. Following the dinner, we opened presents before going to the midnight service. Christmas day we gathered together with relatives (mom being the youngest of 9) for traditional food and more celebration. A time of joy with the warmth of family.paulahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06582729374369464519noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4208484529310744874.post-55137326850894177642011-12-23T11:28:26.593-05:002011-12-23T11:28:26.593-05:00Sounds like a lovely day, and a Happy Lille Julaft...Sounds like a lovely day, and a Happy Lille Julaften to you, dear friend.Eugenie Torgersonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00725769833779170036noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4208484529310744874.post-61209344515959131612011-12-23T10:19:47.156-05:002011-12-23T10:19:47.156-05:00Thank you so much for reminding us of this time to...Thank you so much for reminding us of this time to stop. I remember your little trolls, were they? so charming. We have had a big deep snow and today the blue sky and sun are sparkling and changing all the colors.
